Backstory (Part I) Way back in 1989 we were just a bunch of college students in Western Massachusettes. Then one of us came up with the snarky comment "My Parents went Baby Seal Killing and All I Got was this Stupid Tee Shirt", in reply to someone else's stupid "blah blah blah Stupid Tee Shirt" tee shirt. Then came the first brilliant idea - let's make that shirt. Two cans of spraypaint and some stenciling later, we had it - the original BSK Tee Shirt! I wonder if the Smithsonian is interested in keeping such an important historical artifact?
We found a designer to help us polish up the design (there was no Photoshop then!). A month or so later we were in business, with a few dozen printed Tee Shirts. We hung flyers - the kind with the rip-off "tabs" and people actually sent us money! We had to order more shirts!
They were quickly selling all over Massachusettes: Boston, North Hampden, Amherst (home of UMass), Springfield, and around Worchester. Local record and clothing stores were selling them, some on consignment. We were also sometimes selling them outside rock/punk clubs., in the parking lots. The first few gross sold well, and we kept going!
Stay tuned for Part II
